Because the impeller is partially or fully retracted from the flow path of the volute, it has excellent non-clogging performance, with strong capabilities for passing particles and long fibers. Particles in the volute are propelled by the vortex generated by the rotating impeller. Suspended particles themselves do not generate energy but exchange energy with the liquid within the flow path. During the flow process, suspended particles or long fibers do not come into contact with the blades, resulting in reduced blade wear. There is no increase in clearance due to abrasion, and the pump maintains stable efficiency over long-term operation. This type of impeller is suitable for pumping media containing large particles and long fibers. In terms of performance, the efficiency of this impeller is relatively low, approximately 70% of that of a conventional closed impeller, and its head curve is relatively flat.
